Pro Bono Online, Anytime

Connecticut Free Legal Answers is an online pro bono initiative of the Connecticut Bar Association and the American Bar Association. It is a virtual legal advice clinic for low-income Connecticut residents. Individuals request brief advice and counsel about a specific civil legal issue on a secure website. Volunteer attorneys log-in to the website, review the questions, select the questions they choose to answer, and provide basic legal information and advice. All communication between the client and the attorney takes place anonymously via a secure website. The representation is limited to answering the question posed without any expectation of ongoing representation.

How does it work?

  • Eligible clients ask a specific civil legal question on the secure website
  • Participating attorneys can choose the question they want to answer, at any time, and from any location
  • This is a limited-scope service -- the clients know in advance that your assistance is restricted to answering their civil legal question, and that you will not go to court with them or prepare any paperwork
  • Attorneys have an opportunity to ask clarifying questions and can choose whether to permit the client to ask follow-up questions
  • Open to all attorneys in good standing who are licensed to practice law in Connecticut
  • Malpractice coverage provided for free to volunteer attorneys for legal guidance provided through the website
